Process
I always start with a sketch, either from memory or from life. I’m drawn to solitary figures and houses set against vast open landscapes, so these feature frequently in my work.
After I have the drawing, I work on engraving the image into the woodblock. I then roll a thin layer of ink onto the engraved block and carefully place my paper on top. I apply pressure to the back of the paper to transfer the ink - either by hand burnishing it or putting it through an old-fashioned printing press.
I let the prints dry, then sign + number each one. I print limited editions so each print gets its own unique number in the bottom corner and after they are sold out I won’t print any more.
